Full-time: Bochum 0-4 Stuttgart

It's Stuttgart who will be leaving the Ruhrstadion with all three points, thanks to a superb hat-trick from Ermedin Demirović. After a disappointing first half performance, Bochum wanted to start the second half more sharply, but Stuttgart's Bosnian had other ideas, making it three not long after the restart, before adding a fourth towards the end of the game to round off a stellar team performance, despite Stuttgart fielding a much-changed side after their midweek cup heroics.

Demirović the hat-trick hero!

A throw-in from the right finds Stergiou by the touchline. The Stuttgart man plays a searching ball into the six-yard box, where Demirović had crept in unnoticed to finish clinically from close range for his third of the afternoon. Game over!

Just wide

Wittek takes the resultant free-kick after Rieder's foul. He whips a left-footed ball towards the far post, finding Pannewig, who wins the header, steering it just wide of the right post with his first touch since coming on. It looks like on of those days for Bochum...

Quickfire yellows

Real chance squandered

Stuttgart find themselves with a three-on-two counter-attack. Touré plays it left to Leweling, but there's a failure in communication between the German winger and Demirović, resulting in the ball getting caught under Leweling's foot and Bochum clearing the danger.

Still no way through

It's not for lack of trying that Bochum are yet to find a response. Alexander Nübel has dealt well with everything that has come his way.

Double change

Jaquez is deemed unable to continue and is replaced by the young Jeltsch. Leweling also replaces Führich on the left wing.

Wittek tries to whip a set-piece in from near the right touchline, but it's too flat and Stuttgart head it clear on the first time of asking.

Double delight for Demirović

Stuttgart's No. 9 grabbed his 12th goal of the Bundesliga season shortly after the restart here.

Disallowed!

Bero lays the ball off to Krauß on the edge of the Stuttgart box. The midfielder strikes it, aiming for the bottom right corner. Alexander Nübel gets down well to save and Masouras tries to follow it up, dispossessing the keeper before slotting home, but the referee's whistle had gone - Nübel had full control of the ball when he was tackled by Masouras and the goal won't stand.
58'

So close to the hat-trick!

Woltemade is played through to the byline. It looks as though Ordets will shepherd it out for Bochum, but the big forward manages to get round him to poke a hopeful ball into the box. Demirović reacts quickest, opting for the first-time shot, but his powerful effort is straight at Horn, who manages to parry with a good reflex save to deny the Bosnian.

The xG values indicate that Stuttgart are good value for their lead, having taken their chances well when they've fallen for them.

Oermann hits it

Masouras holds the ball up well for Bochum, waiting for support to arrive. It comes in the form of Oermann, and the Greek international lays it off for his teammate to strike from the edge of the box. It's a venomous attempt, but ends up in the side netting.

Demirović at the double!

That goal has really deflated the Bochum fans here. Stuttgart work it out to Führich on the left, who draws pressure before playing it down the line to Hendriks. The full-back whips a dangerous cross into the six-yard box, finding Demirović, who had lost his man to poke it home unmarked. Bochum have a mountain to climb here...

Half-time: Bochum 0-2 Stuttgart

The sides go in at the break with the much-changed Stuttgart side two goals to the good. Sebastian Hoeneß' men assumed an early lead thanks to clinical finishes from both Chabot and Demirović, with Karazor really catching the eye. Rieder came incredibly close to making it three after his effort ricocheted off the post. After a slow start, Bochum grew as the half went on and have dominated possession, but are yet to really trouble Nübel in the Stuttgart goal.

A threat on the counter

37'

Corner

Holtmann's attempted cross from the left is blocked behind for a corner. Bero takes an inswinger, finding a Bochum player on the edge of the six-yard box, but the ball gets caught under his foot and Stuttgart clear.

Boadu spins

A low cross comes in from the left for Bochum. Boadu tries to turn his man in the middle to make space for a shot, but Chabot comes across to help and manages to stop the shot and clear.
31'

How did that stay out?!

Rieder finds himself with time and space for a shot from the edge of the Bochum box and strikes a powerful, low, left-footed effort towards the bottom right corner. It strikes the post before bouncing off the back of the goalkeeper, but it spins away from the goal-line and the angle proves too tight for Woltemade on the follow-up. That could not have been much closer to a third...

Deadly Demirović

Roof of the net!

Hofmann is played in behind down the left channel. He digs out a cross into the middle, finding Passlack, who comes steaming into the box. He makes contact with the header, but there's just too much on it as it loops over Alexander Nübel and lands on top of the net.

Snuffed out

Demirović spearheads yet another dangerous-looking Stuttgart counter-attack. Twisting and turning, he drives at Ordets, but the Bochum defender stays composed, waiting for his moment before sticking out a boot to snuff out the danger.

Demirović with a quickfire second!

What a start for Stuttgart here! A Hendriks throw is brought down by Woltemade, who tussles with a couple of Bochum defenders before shifting it across to Karazor. The captain just lifts the ball over the Bochum back line and into the path of Demirović, who chips it over the outrushing Horn to make it two to the visitors.

Führich again!

This time, Rieder does well down the right channel for the visitors. He spots the winger in space in the box, and threads a low pass into his path. Führich attempts a flick with his heel, but he doesn't connect with the ball properly and it trickles wide.

Führich is played in behind via a long lofted ball. He brings it down and hits a half volley, which is blocked by Ordets. It falls to the Stuttgart man again, who has another go, but a second block denies him.

More on that Bochum side

By contrast, Dieter Hecking makes just one change to his team that lost 3-1 away at Leverkusen on Matchday 27. Boadu starts up top in place of Masouras, who drops to the bench.

Dieter Hecking on facing Stuttgart

"A lot has been made about this block of four games against Bayern, Frankfurt, Leverkusen and Stuttgart. Obviously we want to continue improving our points haul. Stuttgart have a lot of players with high tempo, but we've also done a decent job with covering space in recent games. We're not left scratching our heads at that."

Sebastian Hoeneß on facing Bochum

"We want to channel the feelings and energy [from beating Leipzig to reach the DFB Cup final]. It's tough to play in Bochum. It's all or nothing in a relegation battle. I'm expecting a heated and intense game."

One to remember

The reverse fixture, won 2-0 by Stuttgart, was a memorable one for three Stuttgart players. Chris Führich scored his first Bundesliga goal of the season, Justin Diehl netted the maiden Bundesliga goal of his career, and Leonidas Stergiou provided an assist for the first time amongst the elite.
