Is Section 8 Changing the Game? Some Rentals No Longer Qualify for Full Vouchers?!
If you rely on Section 8 or invest in rental properties, you’ll notice this. They’ve changed the way they calculate voucher amounts, and it could seriously impact renters and landlords.
Before, the voucher amount was based on the number of bedrooms in a property. But now? It’s determined by the zip code.
For example, in some areas, a two-bedroom used to qualify for around $1,300–$1,500 a month. But under the new rules, if your property is in a lower-tier zip code, the voucher might only cover $1,050, even if similar rentals go for much more. That means landlords might be less inclined to accept Section 8 tenants in those areas.
Some people argue Section 8 is still a great option because rent is guaranteed, but others believe well-qualified tenants paying market rates are a better bet long-term.
What do you think? Does this change how you feel about Section 8 housing?
