Petit altera, et altera habebit. Petit altera, my sister Chalciope. Altera habebit Creusa, the daughter of Creon. One shall intereade for them, and another enjoy the benefit. So commentators generally explain it: but Heinsius fancies an error in the text, and supposes the original reading to have been,
“Orat opem Minyis soror altera, et altera flevit;
Aesonio iuveni, quod petit illa, damus.
”
