After the purely comedic fumoffu season, this entry goes for a much darker feel by putting more emphasis on detailed backgrounds, playing with light and shadow in many scenes and judicious use of silence, which is probably what impressed me the most.
The moody, at times downright oppressive atmosphere that this creates is a perfect fit for the negative headspace the two protagonists are in. I really felt Souseke's frustration and uncertainty and Kaname's growing paranoia, so much so that it was hard to keep watching at times, that's how much the show pulled me in.
Despite that, it ends on an extremely positive and thematically perfect note. Worse than the first season in some ways, better in others, recommended either way.
