.... Oh right?
This has the smack of one of my own personal Big Ideas.
Great potential, a good bit of foundation-ing
and then...
someone forgot to actually do any work.
Now, it actually looks good; there is nice smooth edges to everyone, and lots of moé-scale highlighting to excite and amuse. Character designs have nice proportions (in all avenues relevant) , backgrounds are nice enough. Decent effort here.
Sound gets a little grating, but then thats to be expected from this type o' animu. Character-Voice matchups went well, so another solid effort.
yeah.
then things go all wrong.
Now I can understand giving the fanboys something to get overheated by, but this is pushing it.
Firstly; The eps get an episode by episode context advancement, which in simple terms means all of not very much happens, then happens again regardless of the context it is meant to have had. This can and has worked; Ichimaro has proven it. This specimen most certainly doesnt.
True, all of 4~ minutes (-intro/outro) is no great pallet to do some serious advancement, but they don't even try.
The actual premise concluded in the.. conclusion is not, in fact, elaborated on. We are given some stick figures who bounce of each other in various ways, and are evidently meant to provide the underlying story.
Character development goes the same way, the individuals are there, they have a wee bit of personality in the hard black and white "I Am X-type, this is Y-type(falls over) and here is Z type(who stares vacantly into space)". admittedly, this can be forgiven by the fact that they had all of half a minute for char development in the traditional sense.
So, this is either someone giving a bunch o students some freehand and internet-broadcasting it, or so incredibly ineptly adapting a source book that they should be fired on the spot.
BUT STILL!
it was sparse enough to draw some interest out of me, even if it looked like a bad version of Sister Princess. As such, if something serious is meant to follow, I'll give it some attention at least.
But the fact that it took me longer to type this review than to watch the series will always be a negative factor. Not that i'm biased against short animu ( quite the opposite) but shorts tend to at least have the four stages of storytelling, this one seems to have misplaced them.
